Iron Avenue Bridge Painting Commences

On Monday July 17th, Thomas Industrial Coatings of Kansas City will begin repainting the pedestrian railings and light poles on the Iron Avenue bridge west of Marymount Road.

The existing green paint has significantly faded and chipped since the steel was last painted 31 years ago.  The new paint color will be black to match the color on some of the City of Salina's newer bridges.

The existing paint contains a minor amount of lead and must be removed prior to repainting.  Passing motorists will likely see very little of the removal work since it will be fully contained to catch the hazardous paint chips.

The work is expected to be completed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with two way traffic being maintained over the bridge at all times.  The project is expected to be completed in two weeks, weather permitting.  Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

The $70,000 project is part of the City of Salina's $4.7 million 2017 maintenance capital improvement program.
