Pavement Sealing Update
On Wednesday, March 25 through Friday, March 27, 2015, contractor Circle C Paving will be performing pavement sealing on the following streets for the City of Salina:
• Eastborough Road;
• Grand Avenue – west of Broadway Blvd; and
• Markley Road – Magnolia Road to Foxtail Drive.
The work will include applying an asphalt based product to City streets in order to seal pavement joints and distresses.
The contractor will begin daily work no earlier than 8 am and will be completed no later than 5 pm. Traffic may be reduced to single lanes in both directions during paving; workers will be present to guide traffic through the work zone. Residences and businesses will be notified if access to driveways will be restricted while work is performed. On-street parking in work zones is discouraged, as it will prevent areas of pavement from being treated.
The annual pavement sealing program is an important and cost-effective preventive maintenance component of our annual street repair program. Pavement sealing helps prevent water from penetrating into the pavement structure or sub-base material and aids in reducing a number of pavement problems which include: crack spreading; formation of voids under pavement; swelling and shrinking of sub-base materials; freeze-thaw action; alligator cracking; potholing; and complete failure.
